COVID-19 and its Impact on the Harvard School of Dental Medicine

The COVID-19 pandemic reached the US in February 2020 and significantly impacted the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. On March 16, 2020, HSDM closed its campus for a two-week lockdown and quarantine. Essential employees remained on campus during this time. HSDM continued virtual activities for the rest of the academic year. In June 2020, HSDM took steps to re-open labs for in-person use.

Harvard School of Dental Medicine Partners to Launch School in Rwanda

In 2011, the Harvard School of Dental Medicine collaborated with the University of Maryland and the University of Rwanda College of Medicine and Health Sciences to establish the first dental school in Rwanda. The new School of Dentistry exists within the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Rwanda. Rwanda’s population surpasses 12 million, yet as of 2018 fewer than 40 dentists were registered in the country.

The COVID-19 pandemic reached the US in February 2020 and impacted Harvard Medical School the following month. On March 16, 2020, HMS first closed its campus for a two-week lockdown and quarantine. Essential employees remained on campus and labs remained open. HMS continued virtual activities until the transition back to in-person classes began for the Fall 2021 semester. HMS campus started to re-open in July 2021.
