Dr. Rochelle Walensky was appointed to serve as the Director of the CDC in 2021. Walensky received her MD degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and earned her MPH from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She was a Harvard Medical School Professor of Medicine from 2012 to 2020 and the Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital from 2017 to 2020. During her tenure as CDC Director, Dr. Walensky navigated and responded to the complexities of the COVID 19 pandemic. She resigned from her position on May 5, 2023. As of January 2024, Dr. Walensky is a Richard L. and Ronay A. Menschel Senior Leadership Fellow at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, an executive fellow at Harvard Business School, and a research fellow at Harvard Kennedy School’s Women and Public Policy Program.
