Vicki Rosen, PhD (First Full Woman Professor)

The Harvard School of Dental Medicine hired its first full woman professor, Vicki Rosen, PhD, in 2002. Three years later, in 2005, Dr. Rosen became chair of the Oral and Developmental Biology Department. Dr. Rosen’s research interests include musculoskeletal diseases and bone morphogenetic proteins. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) and is a principal faculty member there, serving as the program leader for HSCI’s Musculoskeletal Diseases Program. Her lab, the Rosen Lab, continues to research bone morphogenetic proteins and the roles they play in the development, maintenance, and repair of musculoskeletal tissues. Dr. Rosen served as interim dean of HSDM from January 1st, 2020, through August 31st, 2020. In 2023, she received the Barbara J. McNeil Faculty Award for Exceptional Service to Harvard Medical School/Harvard School of Dental Medicine.
