Elizabeth Blackwell Becomes the First Woman to Gain a Medical Degree in the United States

Elizabeth Blackwell earned her medical degree from Geneva Medical College in 1849, thus becoming the first woman to receive an MD from an American medical school. She died in 1910 after practicing medicine for many years.
